4 Home Remedies To Fight Morning Sickness During Pregnancy
Morning sickness is an indispensable yet uncomfortable thing about being pregnant. It takes the joy out of pregnancy and unluckily, no specific treatment has been devised for this motherhood woe. However, many studies have looked at the evidence on a number of morning sickness treatments.
Take a look at what they found:
Ginger:
Experts recommend ginger for morning sickness during pregnancy as it can relieve mild symptoms. A study has shown that the benefits of ginger are apparent irrespective of how it was taken (fresh root, powdered, capsules or syrup) or the amount taken. In fact, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (ACOG) recommends ginger for treating mild morning sickness.
Vitamin B6:
Vitamin B6 can also be taken as a first-line treatment for mild morning sickness. In a study, the researchers looked at 14 randomized clinical trials on vitamin B6. When the vitamin was compared to a placebo, it was found that B6 was associated with a reduction in nausea. Thus, when you get nauseous in the morning, pop a B6 pill or eat foods rich in this vitamin such banana, salmon, sweet potato, or spinach.
Antihistamines:
Allergy medicines can also ease the symptoms of nausea and vomiting, say experts. While taking an antihistamine improves women’s symptoms but taking it along with vitamin B6 is a better treatment. Both the compounds are safe to take during pregnancy. The ACOG advises that pregnant women should try antihistamine called doxylamine, which is an over the counter medicine.
Acupressure:
You can also opt for some alternative therapy to relieve mild symptoms of morning sickness. In acupressure technique, pressure (with fingers) is applied on the inside of the arm about 1/6th of the distance from the wrist which is between the two tendons located there. Studies have reported that applying pressure to this pressure point offered great relief in morning sickness symptoms.
